Thomas Ray "Tom" Rider

1954 - 2025

Thomas Ray Rider, 71, known to friends and family as "Tom" or "Tommy" passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, July 27, 2025. Tom was born on March 18, 1954 in Chestertown, MD, the son of Charles William Rider and Anna Virginia (Green) Rider. Tom attended Queen Anne's County High School, followed by a degree from the University of Maryland. He worked for the state for a total of 43 years and retired in 2024 as a supervisor from the Maryland Department of Labor. He dedicated 25 years to the Queen Anne's County Democratic Central Committee.

Tom enjoyed hunting, crabbing and spending time with his grandchildren. He was also an avid sports fan, cheering on the Baltimore Ravens, Baltimore Orioles and the Maryland Terrapins. He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Maela; son, Thomas; step son, Bernard (Melanie); step daughter, Marisa; five grandchildren, Félipa, Hudson, Emilian, Chandler and Finley; and his brother Charles (Beverly). A celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2025 from 11 AM to 1 PM at Fellows, Helfenbein, & Newman Funeral Home, 408 S. Liberty Street, Centreville, MD.
