Richard Eugene Schaneman

December 11, 1931 - December 5, 2024

Richard Eugene Schaneman, 92, of Scottsbluff, NE, passed away December 5, 2024. His memorial service and committal of ashes will be 10:30am on Friday, July 11, 2025, at St. Francis Episcopal Church in Scottsbluff with Reverend Erin Rath officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West Nebraska Arts Center or to St. Francis Episcopal Church. Rich was born on December 11, 1931, to Maria (Dahlinger) and George Schoeneman in Minatare, NE. He graduated from Scottsbluff High School in 1950. He entered the U.S. Navy and served for 4 years.

He had always had a love of art and during his service he developed a passion for photography. In 1955 he attended the New York Institute of Photography. After completion he worked with several studios in New York for over 38 years. His assignments took him all over the world. He returned to Nebraska in 1993 and continued his passion for visual art. He has won numerous awards for his artwork including two IPAs (International Photography Awards). He was very active with local arts activities and was a member of the North Platte Valley Artist Guild. Rich was a great man of faith and was a member of St. Francis Episcopal Church.

He is survived by brothers Donald Schoeneman (Eunice) of Denver, CO and Robert Schoeneman of Lincoln, NE; sisters, Lorrine Conrad of Spokane, WA, Martha Siegfried (Arthur) of Wenatchee, WA, Frances Hyde Johnson and Barbara Tallmon, both of Scottsbluff; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, LeRoy Schaneman; sister, Florence Kasza; brothers-in-law, William Kasza, Gerald (Jerry) Tallmon, Robert (Bob) Hyde and Klayton (Kay) Johnson; sisters-in-law, Mary Jo Schaneman and Nola Schoneman; stepfathers, Reinhart Reis and Henry Roth; as well as friend, Joseph (Peppi) Gutierrez.
