I had Mr. Daniel as a senior at Monaca High School back in 1969. He was a great POD teacher, but he taught more than what was in a textbook. I remember as a senior, I was also a sports stringer for our local paper, the Beaver County Times. As such I had to cover some Monaca High School sporting events. It caused problems for me with some of the players who thought I should be giving them more credit. I remember one time before a class some kids were giving me a hard time and Mr. Daniel stepped in told the other kids that I was just doing my job and they needed to cut me some slack. I really appreciated hearing someone stand up for me and I never forgot that moment of kindness. It's a tribute to him that I still remember that and some other nice things 37 years later. We should all hope that we would have a similar impact on people's lives. I know many others held similar views. There's a Monaca page on Facebook full of kind comments as well. Please accept my condolences in your time of grief and know that he will be remembered by me and many others for as long as we live. My name is Mark O'Keefe. I'm the editorial page editor of the Herald-Standard in Uniontown. I can be reached at [email protected].
