Carlos FLORES Obituary

FLORES, Carlos Adrian
Carlos Adrian Flores, 70 of Austin, TX passed away on the 23rd day of January 2015 at Seton Hospital in Austin, TX having suffered a heart attack a week prior. His final hours were spent surrounded by family sharing their favorite memories of his life.

Carlos, known as Charlie by friends, was born in Austin, TX on January 6, 1945. He was raised by Matias and Susie Velasquez alongside his seven siblings. Charlie was the oldest child and as such he paved his own way and served as a confidant, friend, and example to his younger siblings and son.
He was a proud father and grandfather and a constant presence at family gatherings. His family will surely miss his sense of humor, his love of dancing to tejano and country music, and his love of food. The surest way to his heart was through his stomach. He was always ready to go out and try something new or just come over and share a meal. Many of the best memories his friends and family have of him are centered around the dinner table while sharing a great meal.

Charlie served as a counselor and sponsor for over 30 years helping people recover from alcohol and drugs. Through this work he not only affected, but saved many lives. He was a constant source of friendship and support to those whom he sponsored, helping them through the most difficult times in their lives.

Carlos is survived by his son Michael Adrian Flores and daughter in law Christine Flores of Bee Cave, TX; grandchildren, Samantha Jean and Hunter Adrian Flores of Bee Cave, TX; former spouse and stepdaughter Anita and Alex Edwards of Austin, TX; siblings: Yolanda Velasquez of Austin, TX; Barbara Rivera of Austin, TX; Michael and wife Josefina Velasquez of Snyder, TX; Francis and wife Elsa Velasquez of Austin, TX; Geraldine and husband James Stewart of Austin, TX; and Monica Larson of Austin, TX; as well as many nieces and nephews and countless friends.

Carlos is preceded in death by his biological father Jose Flores and his parents Matias and Susie Velasquez as well as his brother George Velasquez.
Graveside service and interment will take place at Assumption Cemetery Friday, February 13, 2015 at 12:30 P.M. with a memorial service at 4:30 P.M. at Abiding Love Lutheran Church, 7210 Brush Country Road, Austin, TX 78749.
