Donald Bandy Obituary

Donald Lewis Bandy, Jr. Donald Lewis Bandy, Jr. of Austin, Texas passed from this life with us to his life in heaven on May 28, 2012. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Amzy and Norvelle Schneider, and paternal grandparents Leander and Marie Bandy. Don is survived by his wife Carla Bandy of Buda; his son Kyle of Gonzales; his son and daughter-in-law RJ and Robin Bandy of Austin; his son Brent of Buda; his parents Don and Ivy Bandy of Kingsland; his brother David Bandy and family of San Antonio; his eldest sister Kerry Howell and family of Amarillo; his youngest sister Kelly Bandy Young and family of Austin; his beloved dog Sammy and numerous friends and loved ones. Don graduated from Anderson High School in the class of '77 and graduated from Sul Ross State University in December '82 where he made a name for himself on the football field, as well as in the hearts of many great friends and his future wife. Don was named to the All-American squad in '81 (averaging 11 tackles per game at linebacker) and was a significant leader and player for two conference championship teams, one of which ended the '82 season undefeated and ranked #4 in the nation. Upon graduation he married his college sweetheart Carla, raised three sons, and began his own successful company, Don Bandy Service & Equipment in Austin in '87. Don enjoyed the outdoors and spent his free time with friends and family hunting, fishing, and barbequing. The family would like to thank Johnnie and Becky Whitlock, Johnny and Sharon Creek, and Mac and Annie Russell for their unwavering support and friendship. Memorial services will be held Saturday June 23, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Twelve Oaks Ranch 15210 Fitzhugh Road Austin, Texas 78736-6302. I was priviledged to broadcast almost every college football game Don played in while he was a Lobo. Don was part of an extraordinary group of young men who made living in Alpine very special during the early 1980's. I was not aware of his passing until this week, when I read the report about Don being inducted into the Sul Ross Athletic Hall of Honor next month. Carla, please know that we share in your loss, and we will always cherish those fall afternoons following the Lobos around the TIAA.

To all the Bandy Family. My heart felt wishes go out to you all. In looking up a time for a memorial for my Mom I surprisingly & saddenly came across the picture of Don and his passing. Don was a good friend & teammate at Anderson. He was full of life and I remember never seeing him without a dip in his lip & that big smile on his face. A tough competetor he played Tightend most of our District Championship Season with a broken bone in his ankle/leg, but never complained. He could always make me laugh and sometimes at the wrong times which got me in trouble, meanwhile he would sit there with his sheepish, boyish, innocent face as to say who me?It was hard to ever be mad at him, cause Don had a great & playful heart. My prayers & thoughts are with the Bandy Family.

May God Bless:
