Doris Timmermann Obituary

Family-Placed Obituary

Doris Gumprich Timmermann A Bright Star has fallen from the Skies -- An Angel has ascended into Heaven Doris or as she was better known as Donny, was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on April 10, 1925, the daughter of Otto and Louise Jotterand Gumprich. She lived most of her school years in Glen Rock, N.J., and later attended and graduated from Chevy Chase College in Maryland and from Briarcliff College in New York. She and her parents were avid figure skaters. Donny held champion positions in many meetings throughout the northeastern states and was the recipient of many medals attesting to her prowess. She studied and worked in New York City and there met her future husband. She married Tim (Wilfred R. Timmermann) at Governor s Island, N.Y., on June 30, 1951. Tim was in the U.S. Army, Donny soon adapted herself to being a serviceman s wife. They traveled together to the various military bases -- to Berlin in 1953-1956, Maryland for several years, and then to Kassel, Germany. Her son Steven was born in Berlin, daughter Sandra was born in Maryland, and son Russell was born in Kassel. Donny went through the travails and joys of being an army officer s wife, and the mother of three great and loving children. No matter where Donny made a hospitable, comfortable, and loving home for the family. After Tim retired from the army she lived in Upper Saddle River, N.J. Tim was employed by the Garcia Corp. that was founded by her father. No matter where she lived, Donny collected a wide circle of friends, she was active in civic affairs, loved to play bridge with friends, and was a proud spectator of her children s school events. Donny had an extraordinary ability to make friends everywhere she went; some of these friends date back to kindergarten, to college days, and onward through the army years, at home here in Austin and beyond. She was blessed with the birth of three lovely "Grand-girls": Shannon, Kelsey, and Jessica McMinn. Left behind to honor her life are husband, Wilfred Timmermann; sons, Steven W., and Russell G., of Austin; her daughter, Sandra L. and her husband Brian McMinn, and their children, Shannon, Kelsey, and Jessica, of Buda; her brother and sister-in-law, Curtis and Dorothy Timmermann, of New Braunfels; Donny s cousins, Sylvia of Florida, Ruth of Arizona, Joan of Virginia, Joyce of Indiana, and Jean-Pierre of France, join in our grief. Donny passed away peacefully at the Christopher House Hospice in Austin on the First of November, 2004. In lieu of flowers, contributions to: Hospice Austin Christopher House, 2820 MLK, Austin, TX 78702; or The Salvation Army, P.O. Box 1000, Austin, TX 78767, are encouraged. A memorial service will be held on November 21, 2004, at 2:00 p.m., at The Shady Hollow Community Center, 3303 Doe Run, Austin, Texas.
