With heavy hearts we announce the death of James Lee Porter, 57, of Austin, Texas on June 11, 2025. He was born to Lewis and Aliceann (Sandy) Porter in Columbia, South Carolina on November 25, 1967. He was their third child and only son, much beloved by his parents, sisters, wife and extended family. Jim was a devoted uncle, loyal friend, caring brother, and above all, a loving son and husband. We are left with a hole in our hearts but the peace of knowing that his spirit remains in our presence.
Jim lived most of his life in Austin, TX, graduating from Westlake High School in 1986. He earned a bachelor's degree from Texas State University (Sociology) in 1990. He spent many years afterwards working
as a stock broker.
After meeting on a blind date set up by their dear friends in 2005, Jim married the love of his life, Sarah Hoey Porter in 2007. They created a wonderful life and home together with a shared love of their dogs and a devotion to their extended family. Jim and Sarah were the go to hosts of many special family events and always opened their home selflessly, generously and lovingly. Jim's warm embrace of everyone, even upon a casual greeting, was a reminder of his kind, funny and humble soul.
Jim was preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Leola Hale, Lee and Louise Porter and his uncle, William Thomas Hale. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Hoey Porter, parents Lewis and Aliceann (Sandy) Porter, sisters Angie Cooper (Jon), Lisa Harrell (Reid), aunts Mary Sue Echols and Jamie Ham, mother-in-law Anne Hoey and sister-in-law Catherine Randall (Will), nephews James Heberling, Matthew Heberling, Riley Harrell, William Harrell, Jack Harrell, Sam Randall and Fairfax Randall, and niece Elizabeth Randall. He is also survived by his cousin J.D. Ellison (Sandy) who was just like a brother to him, and many other cousins, aunts and uncles, as well his ever faithful pup companion, Lola.
Although we are heartbroken, we celebrate the life of a splendid man who enriched all of our lives with his boundless love and complete devotion to his family. Jim will be deeply missed. All who knew him felt his warmth and joy for life. He truly left all of us who knew him the better for having him part of our lives.
