Lora Boone Obituary
Lora May Boone Jan. 8, 1935 - Oct. 27, 2003 passed peacefully at home with her family on Monday, October 27, 2003. Her essence, beautiful welcoming smile, fun-loving spirit, and vitality will remain with those who loved her forever. Lora grew up on a farm near La Mesa, New Mexico. She graduated from Gadsden High School in Anthony, NM, where she was drum majorette and salutatorian of her class. Lora attended New Mexico A&M, where she met Rodney Boone. Their romance began when he offered to escort her up the stairs through a ``gauntlet' of gaping young men. She thought that was very considerate of him, so she married him. The romance has continued for over 50 years, creating quite a family line; sons, Craig (deceased), Steve, his wife, Cindy; her daughter, Janelle and life partner, Debbie; grandchildren, Luke and wife, Keri, Mark and wife, Tera, Mandy and husband, Seth; Stacy, Kristy; great-grandchildren, Emily, Craig, and Samuel. As well as her brother and family, Kevin, Jean, Mark and Cindy Kull. Everyone who knew Lora knew how much she loved Rodney. She was his wife, lover, companion, helper, bookkeeper, and deer hunting partner. Rodney loved her too. He said it in all the ways he took care of her. He said it all when he told his granddaughter his favorite word is ``Lora.' Her entire family has warm memories of times spent with Lora: April and May stories shared with her granddaughters; ATV riding, picking pecans and raising Longhorns at their ranch. Even though her family was undeniably the center of her life, Lora had another life away from them. She went to work for the U.S. Postal Service as a rural mail carrier in l975, and carried RR 4 in Austin for 22 years. She knew everyone on her route and was dedicated to giving the best service possible, always with that smile. In her job, Lora demonstrated her true leadership capabilities. She helped set up the first Rural Carrier Training Academy in the Austin area and trained hundreds of new carriers throughout central Texas. Her attention to detail and striving for excellence insured the success of the program. In her personal life and in her professional life, it wasn't the big things Lora did that made her special; it was the millions of little things. Friends will be received from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on November 8th at the 2-B Ranch in San Saba. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the charity of your choice.
