Mary Gil Obituary

(12/28/2002) Mary Elizabeth Gil Mary Elizabeth Gil, ``Mary Boo'', beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away peacefully at her home on on December 26, 2002, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Mary was born on February 10, 1941, the daughter of Frank and Estella Urias in Austin, Texas. She spent her early summer years in Texas City and Galveston, but attended school here in Austin at Zavala, Alan Jr. High School, where she met her future husband, Johnny Gil, and Austin High School, where they both graduated. She married Johnny on October 16, 1960. Mary worked for the IRS and retired after 27 years of service. Mary and Johnny loved to travel to Laredo for the weekend, or go dancing at Palmer Auditorium or the City Coliseum when Little Joe or Sonny and the Sonlietners were playing, with the many close friends they have known since high school. Some or the places Mary and Johnny would travel to were Las Vegas, Cancun, Cozumel and Hawaii. The one place Mary and Johnny had planned to visit was Alaska for their 40th wedding anniversary, but never got the chance due to Mary's illness. Family and friends have always been the central point of Mary's life. She enjoyed Sunday dinners, where all the family would gather once a week, no matter what, to laugh and joke with each other. A tradition that Mary carried on from her mother-in- law, Eugenia Gil. Mary always enjoyed life, family and friends to the fullest. She will forever be in our hearts and in our memories, and we can't help but smile when we think of her. She is certainly missed, but she can never be forgotten. Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Estella Urias, and her twin daughters, Tina Jeanette and Gina Annette. Mary is survived by her husband of 42 years, Johnny Gil; brothers, Frank Urias, Jr. and wife, Margaret, Edward Urias and his companion, Jane Greenwood; daughters, Michelle Gil, Belinda Ellis and husband, John, Annette Gil; and son, John Gil and wife, Alisa; and seven grandchildren, Meranda, Gabriel, Casey, Elizabeth, Stephanie, Alexandra and Hannah. A celebration of Mary's life will be held at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church at 4800 Convict Hill Road, Austin. TX 78749, 512-892- 2420 on December 28, 2002, at 2:00 p.m. The family wishes to express their appreciation to Shelly, Michelle and Anne with Vista Care, Dr. Marjorie Green with MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX, Pastor David Sweet with Hays Hills Baptist Church, and to Father Oliver Johnson with St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. Also, a very special heartfelt thank you to all the numerous family and friends that have helped care for and support Mary's family during this difficult time.
