Patricia Sommerville Obituary

Patricia Sommerville March 1, 1928 - July 12, 2006 Patricia Sommerville, 78, died peacefully at home in Austin, Texas, on July 12, 2006, where she lived with her daughter, Terri and family for several years. She was surrounded by family and friends. She was a native San Diegan, living within the city limits until she and Tom moved to Del Mar in 1958, where she was an active member of St. Peters Episcopal Church, along with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. She was the ultimate Kool-Aid Mom, creating wonderful memories for her children and all their neighborhood buddies. In 1971, the Sommerville family moved to Olivenhain, where they became involved in San Dieguito 4-H Club, raising pigs, sheep, horses and various other animals. Pat loved to entertain and did it flawlessly. Her home was the gathering place for family and friends, full of laughter and love. She loved to tend to her beautiful gardens, spend time at the beach and paint. She worked at The Merc furniture store in Encinitas as a designer for many years, creating home interiors for her customers who quickly became lifelong friends. Her loving, gentle personality and beautiful smile will forever be her legacy. Pat was predeceased by her husband, Thomas; son, Jim; granddaughter, Amber; along with other family members. Pat is survived by her daughter, Terri Van Ackeren and son-in-law Tim; grandchildren, Jamie Sommerville, Kelsey, Erica, Holland, Adam and wife Mandy Van Ackeren; and great-grandson, Gray Van Ackeren; her sister, Betty Simpson; niece, Sandy and husband Virgil Wood, their children Jeff, Amy and Greg; sister-in-law, Miriam Sommerville; and nephew, David Sommerville and his son, Sean. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at El Camino Memorial/Sorrento Valley Chapel, 5600 Carroll Canyon, San Diego, CA 92121, (858)453-2121. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 19, 2006, at El Camino Memorial/Sorrento Valley Chapel, with interment to follow services in El Camino Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorial contributions to be made in Pat's honor to Angel Heart Hospice, 4501 Spicewood Springs Rd., Suite 1010, Austin, TX 78759, (512)342-8288 or to the charity of your choice.

I so fondly remember your mom, Terri, during all our 4-H activities. What a gracious, caring, wonderful woman. She made a lasting impression on all of us. My thoughts and prayers are with you so much during this difficult time. Please know my thoughts and prayers include both your mom and dad, Jim and Amber and all of you.

With the passing of my own mother on May 12 I understand the sorrow that Terri is going through. Pat was a great 4-H mom/leader and I will always have wonderful memories of her making sandwiches at the "Winnies" at the Del Mar Fair with my own mom.
