Paul E. Schlimper

Paul E. Schlimper Paul E. Schlimper, beloved husband, son, father and grandfather, died October 28, 2005, at his home. He was born on October 6, 1939, in Port Arthur, Tex., to Rudolph Paul Schlimper and Phyllis Thomas. After completing high school in Port Arthur, Tex., he moved to College Station, Tex., where he was a cadet at Texas A&M University. He relocated to Natchitoches, Tex., where he finished his undergraduate education. On June 17, 1961, he was united in marriage to Katherine Daigle in Port Arthur, Tex. He and Katherine moved to Lubbock, Tex. where he pursued and received his Masters of Science degree in 1963. He briefly lived in Bend, Oreg. after graduation and eventually moved to Austin, Tex. in 1964 where he resided with his family for 30 years. After raising his family, he and Katherine moved to Elgin, Tex. Upon completing his education, Paul started his work for the Oregon state park system. After a few months, he relocated to Austin, Tex., where he pursued his professional career with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. In 1971, he was promoted to Director of Parks where he held that position for nine years. In 1985, he started work as a Purchaser for the General Services Commission of the State of Texas where he eventually became Director of Procurement until his retirement in 2001. Paul's passion was flying and teaching. He received his private pilot's license in 1966. Included among his favorite pastimes, was restoring antique Farmall Tractors, reading, writing, playing music, gardening, photography, and spending time on the computer. He also served as a member of the Elgin Parks Advisory Board. He was preceded in death by his father, Rudolph Paul Schlimper and step-father, Jewel Thomas. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Katherine; his children Lynda and her husband James Alvarado, Allen and his wife Ester, Ronald and his wife Neela, Karen and her life partner Dana McDonald, and Susan and her husband Jerry Oballe ; his grandchildren Leslie, Laura, Jayme, Sara, Ryan, Paul, Mitchell, Clara, and Christa, his mother Phyllis Thomas; his step-mother Addie Lee Schlimper; his brother John Phillip Schlimper and his wife Charlotte; his step-brothers Gene Thomas and his wife Cheri, and Billy Ransom and his wife Helen; his step-sister Cynthia and her husband Jack Donahue. The family would like to thank A-Med Community Hospice for their loving care. Memorials may be made to A-Med Community Hospice or to The American Cancer Society. Visitation will be held between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m., Sunday, October 30, 2005, with the Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m., at the Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 31, 2005, at the Memorial Chapel of Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home with Reverend Juan Maravella as Celebrant. Committal services will follow at Cook-Walden/ Capital Parks Cemetery.
