Peter Staats Obituary

Peter Staats
An enlightened soul left this world on February 12, 2021. Peter Paul Maria Staats was a generous, loving, funny, eccentric, engaging person with a creative eye and fantastic taste in women. He loved Austin, especially East Austin, and was an advocate for the arts and those less fortunate. Peter was born on January 18, 1953 in Talang Akar, Indonesia to Petrus "Piet" Cornelius Staats and Maria "Miek" Petronella Staats neé Smeele. Peter married the first love of his life, Ann Dinsmore Forman, on October 10, 1987. Together they had two wonderful children, Cole Thurgood Staats and Willa Ruth Isabel Staats. Ann unfortunately died from cancer in 2010. After a period of healing, Peter married the second love of his life, Gina André, on December 22, 2018. Peter was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Forman, and his father, Petrus Staats. Peter is survived by his wife Gina André, son Cole Staats and daughter Willa Staats, Gina's children Liam Shea and Cassidy Shea, mother Maria Staats, siblings Irene Oldfather, Frank and Sharon Staats, Monique and Steve Bell, Angela and Jon Fadely, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. In lieu of flowers, a donation to your community in Peter's name would make Peter smile. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at 3pm. Details available on Peter's Facebook page.

Peter was such a wonderful friend and neighbor. John and I lived next door to Gina Evins back in 1985-86, and Peter and Ann welcomed us to the neighborhood with open arms and big hearts. Our time in Austin would not not been nearly as fun, memorable, or complete without their amazing friendship. It is hard to imagine Austin without them. John and I attended the service on FB, and the words of family and friends captured Peter so beautifully. Peter's memory will live on in our hearts and minds.

To the Staats family, I was so saddened to hear of Peter's passing. He was joyful, interesting, engaging and kind, and he absolutely adored all of you. What a tremendous loss to the Austin and McCallum communities. Love from Mary Kahle

Peter was my best friend. My nickname for him was Petro!
He had never ending energy, and love for everyone. He knew everyone in East Austin. He shared his music, wine, and love for life with me! We were friends, since University of Houston days. We shared a house called the Morrison Hotel! We never locked a door!
I will miss you my friend! Rest now Peter. I'll see you when it's my time!
Love you,
Michael Bob!
