Robert Langston Obituary

Dr. Robert Dorn Langston Dr. Robert Dorn Langston passed peacefully from the arms of his loved ones here to the arms of his heavenly father on December 22, 2012. He was a man of courage, honesty, compassion, mercy, and commitment. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, step-father, grandfather, friend, and psychologist. Dr. Langston was predeceased by his parents, Drs. William B. and Bernice Langston, by his brother, Dr. William B. Langston, Jr., and by his first wife, Norma Lee Langston. Dr. Langston was born in San Francisco, California, grew up with a love of the Pacific Ocean that remained with him throughout his life, and completed degrees (BA,MA) at San Jose State College and (Ph.D.) at Duke University. He was on faculty at the Baylor University Medical School and at the University of Texas at Austin. In his 52 years of clinical practice, he enriched the lives of hundreds of patients and their families, and contributed to the growth, self-understanding, maturity, and integrity of others until the day of his passing. Among his personal gifts were the ability to be present to others and to each moment, discernment, and courage to speak and act honestly and wisely. Dr. Langston is survived by his beloved wife Dr. Jeanne Newton Langston, daughter Cindy Hamilton (Chuck), son Mark Langston (Sharla), step-sons Michael O'Reilly (Meredith) and Chris O'Reilly (Tamara); and by his grandchildren Daniel and Brian Hamilton, Jackie and Spencer Langston, Logan and Nolan O'Reilly, and Keegan, Cade, and Kai O'Reilly; by his sisters-in-law India Shackelford (William C.), Mary Kinard (Brent), and Betty Langston; and by a multitude of nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and -nephews. The family is most grateful to Drs. Pohl, Hill, Jackson, Kroll and their staffs, Melina Monson and Austin Region ALSA, Danny Toland, and HospiceAustin staff. A memorial service will be held at St. Matthews Episcopal Church, Austin, TX, at 10am on December 31. Family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Matthews Episcopal Church or UTHSC Neurology ALS Research Endowment Fund (7703 Floyd Curl Dr MC 7835, San Antonio TX 78229-3900).
