Ruby Thames Obituary

Ruby Carolyn Thames
Round Rock - Ruby Carolyn Thames, age 77, of Round Rock, Texas was called to her Heavenly home on February 1, 2021. She passed away peacefully with tears in her eyes. Unfortunately, Ruby suffered a long and debilitating illness that robbed her of most of life's pleasures. She was a friend, a loving wife, and a devoted mother who loved her family and friends dearly.
Ruby was born in Wilson, Arkansas on July 19, 1943. At an early age, her family moved to Kankakee, Illinois where Ruby attended school and graduated from Kankakee High School. Ruby went to work for Southwestern Bell as a telephone operator on January 9, 1962. In 1965, Ruby transferred to Austin, Texas and lived with Judy and Jack Trepanier. Ruby and Roland met that same year and were married on March 21, 1967. Ruby taught Sunday school at Congress Avenue Baptist Church. In night school, she learned shorthand and took several sewing classes. While working full time, Ruby also attended the University of Texas. She loved music and was an avid reader. Ruby retired from the phone company on January 10, 1992.
Sweet Ruby leaves behind her husband of 53 years, Roland Thames; sons, Roland T. Thames, Jr. and Michael L. Thames; four grandchildren: Savannah L. Thames, Brittni S. M. McWilliams, William T. Thames, and Ian M. Thames; one great grandson and two great granddaughters. Ruby is also survived by special friends, neighbors, cousins, nieces, nephews, and other beloved family members.
Special gratitude to Angela O'Leary and Texas Home Health Hospice; the nurses and staff there were special.
Ruby's family is planning private services.
