Charlie Sherrill Obituary

Charlie Sherrill

Charles "Charlie" Norman Sherrill, 75 of Statesville, passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2023, at the Gordon Hospice House.

Charlie was born on September 29, 1947, in Iredell County to the late Frank Henry Sherrill and Lillian Jane Gilleland Sherrill. He was a graduate of Troutman High School Class of 1966, where he was voted most athletic male in his senior class and attended the business school at Mitchell College. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1969. On February 27, 1971, he was married to his best friend Denise Dagenhart Sherrill, who survives. Charlie worked for the Norfolk-Southern Railroad for 37 years before retiring. He was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church where he had served faithfully as a Trustee, Sunday School Superintendent, and numerous other committees. He coached T-Ball, Little League and Babe Ruth baseball for many years and for six years was president of the Statesville High School Boosters Club. For a number of years, he was President of the Victoria Village Homeowners Association and to many was the face of Victoria Village. He loved the beach and enjoyed being a volunteer with the church at Fifth Street Ministries. Most of all he was Paw to his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jeff and Jimmy Sherrill and a sister, Linda S. Younger.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 52 years, Denise Dagenhart Sherrill, two children, Stephanie Meyer (Curtis), and Phillip Sherrill (Jodie), six grandchildren, Madison Spencer (Justin), Matthew Meyer, Tanner Sherrill, Parker Sherrill, Megan Sherrill and Gabby Stacy. Two great grandsons, Walker and Wade Spencer, two sisters, Carol Duke, Joan Karriker, and one brother, David Sherrill (Jane) also survive.

A memorial service to celebrate the incredible life of Charlie Sherrill will be conducted at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 9, 2023, at Wesley Memorial UMC, with Rev. David Locke officiating. Full military honors will be given by the U.S. Army and the Iredell County Veterans Burial Detail. The family will visit with friends following the service in the church parlor. Memorials may be made to Wesley Memorial UMC, 825 Wesley Drive, Statesville, NC 28677, Thrive Church of Statesville, c/o Tommy Snipes, 119 Players Park Circle, Statesville, NC 28625 or to Hospice of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
