Frank Engelbert Obituary

Frank Engelbert, 53, died on Aug. 6, 2011 in Cherry Hill, N.J. Born in Mexico, Frank was adopted at the age of 3 by Jo Anne and Walter Engelbert and spent most of his life in New Jersey. After graduating from Montclair High School, he worked in restaurants and country clubs before settling into a career in home health care. He worked for many years for the Visiting Nurse Association of Asbury Park. Most recently he has worked for Broadway Medical Adult Day Care in Fairlawn. His compassion, empathy, and warmth were important assets in his work. An avid music lover, he enjoyed playing the guitar and was a lifelong fan of the Grateful Dead. He loved to make people laugh and was known for his outrageous sense of humor.

He is survived by his mother, his stepfather, Eugene Schepers, both of St. Augustine, Fla., and his sisters, Karen Dinelli of Ormond Beach and Lee Schepers of Brooklyn, N.Y.

A remembrance service will be held for him on Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Eric Johnson House, 44 South St., Morristown, N.J., 07960. A second memorial will be held in the fall in Florida. The family is requesting that in lieu of flowers donations be made in Frank"s name to NJAS. Dear Joann, Eugene, and family...For a period of time, Frank was a part of my life, and I can remember his orchestrating a dinner so that I could meet you, his mom, and his sister and if you recall, we went to a restaurant up north and he said I made a splash of a good impression on you, because of flowers I gave you. My name is Donald and I was absolutely heartsick finding his obituary...Frank and I became close, and I saw qualities in him that really did shine. I was most proud of his work, and his dedication to others with issues and he had such a wonderful sense of humor.
I do hope that you may receive this email message because I wanted to express my condolences to all of you, as late as I am getting to doing so, for I only found out 2 days back and was so upset over this news. There are endless things I could say about Frank, all good. I am better for having known him and for the involvement we did share.
I hope that he senses my presence and we connect.
I met his best friend Joe many times and we got along well...I labored over writing to you, because I don't want to dredge up upset for you. Surely you have been rather upset. I only wish good things for his memory and that I appreciate fully the simple fact that he and I met, and we became friends and were involved for quite a time. Your son was a very special young man, one I was very happy to know and care for and love. Even when we were no longer involved, we maintained a friendship and continued to support one another. I only wish I knew more to help him because we lost contact, and that was my fault. Please accept my sincere condolences all these months later and know that I thought Frank was a wonderful guy, and friend and mate. From the bottom of my heart, I wish you didn't have to experience all of this loss...
Most sincerely, Donald
