James (Jim) Lofquist
James (Jim) Lofquist died peacefully on July 29, 2021, at his home under Hospice Care in St. Augustine, Florida. Jim was 85 years old.
Jim is survived his wife Barbara Garding Lofquist; their children, Jeffrey Garding Lofquist of Denver Colorado and Michael James Lofquist and his wife Amanda McDonald and two-year-old daughter Svea Lofquist of St. Paul, MN. Jim is also survived by his brother Paul Lofquist and his wife Suzy and their children Sarah Garbis and David Lofquist all of Minneapolis, MN. Jim was preceded in death by his parents Adolph and Ethel Lofquist of Strandburg, South Dakota, and later Minneapolis, MN. Jim also considered his wife Barbara's sizable family as close relatives who are mostly located in Minnesota.
Jim was born on July 24, 1936 in Watertown, South Dakota. He graduated high school from Minnehaha Academy in Minneapolis, MN in 1954. He went on to attend college at the University of Minnesota before volunteering for the United States Marine Corp in 1958 and served until 1961. Jim served in Sitka, Alaska, and Guantanamo, Cuba as a Cryptology Technician. In 1961 Jim returned to the University of Minnesota to continue his studies.
Jim met Barbara Garding in 1972 in Minneapolis and they married in 1974. They lived in Edina, MN before moving to Easton, MD in 1992 with their two sons Jeffrey Lofquist born in 1978, and Michael Lofquist born in 1986. Jim and Barbara subsequently moved to St. Augustine, Florida in 2008. Jim's career was at various companies in Sales Management. His philanthropic interests in retirement involved food programs for children and the homeless. Those who knew Jim appreciated his kindness and his humor. Jim took great pride in the athletic endeavors of his sons, allocating much of his time to mentoring and participating in their competitions, especially golf. He will be greatly missed.
A memorial service for Jim Lofquist will be at a later date at St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church in St. Augustine, FL officiated by Rev Ted Voorhees of St. Cyprians and Rev Amy Camp of Memorial Presbyterian Church, St. Augustine, FL. St. Cyprians requires masking and vaccination The service will be broadcasted LIVE on youtube. The family suggests Community Hospice of St. Augustine, FL 1355 US Highway 1 South, St. Augustine, FL for contributions.

I have fond memories of Jim and will remember him as a caring, kind, generous and fun person. I will miss him and am grateful that I was able to see him when he and Barb recently visited MN.
