Lydia A. Luz, 78, of St. Augustine, died unexpectedly on Oct. 10, 2012, at Flagler Hospital. She was born and grew up in the Philippines. She was a graduate of De La Salle University with a degree in elementary education, and taught elementary school for 13 years in the Philippines. In 1971, she moved to the United States, making her home in Brooklyn, N.Y., where she worked briefly as a nurse"s aide. She later became a clerk for Chase Manhattan Bank, where she served for many years, before retiring in 1988. She relocated to Florida, and was a resident of both Coral Springs and Margate. In her retirement, she did mission work with her church and volunteered her time in a soup kitchen for the homeless. Lydia was a member of St. Vincent"s Catholic Church in Margate, and had attended Corpus Christi Catholic Church in St. Augustine. Above all, she was a loving mother and a devoted grandmother, and she will be deeply missed by her whole family.
She is survived by her daughters, Jennifer Chatterpaul, and her husband, Deo, of Murphy, Texas, Jocelynn Wrubleski, and her husband, James, of Boynton Beach, Fla., Josephine Bokowski, and her husband, Eric, of St. Augustine; a son, Jefferson Luz of Lavon, Texas; sisters, Teresita Africa, Rosalina Recio and Eveng Villanueva; a brother, Maximo Africa; and her precious grandchildren, Analise, Emily, Christina, Gabriella and Cole.
Funeral services will be held at Savino-Weissman Funeral Home in Margate at noon Saturday. A visitation beginning at 10 a.m. will precede the service. Committal services and interment will follow at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
