Sandra C. Tool

Sandra C. Tool, 76, of St. Augustine, passed away on Dec. 6, 2015, at Coral Landing Assisted Living Facility. Originally from Clarion, Pennsylvania, Sandra spent her early years in Mt. Vernon, Indiana, graduating from Mt. Vernon High School with the class of 1957. She began her career as a nutritionist and dietitian for Banquet Foods in Ohio and worked for Marriot Hotel in Washington, D.C. After moving south, she worked with Shaw Frozen Foods in Jacksonville. In the early 1990s, she fulfilled a longtime dream and purchased a beautiful historic home in downtown St. Augustine. She opened her bed-and-breakfast, Casa de Suenos, and remained in the hospitality business until her retirement. In addition to being an accomplished cook, she was a certified master gardener. Sandra loved dogs, and through the years she always had a golden retriever by her side. She was a member of Grace Methodist Church, where she served as an elder, and was a member of the St. Augustine Yacht Club. Sandra will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by her family, friends and the many former patrons of Casa de Suenos who were blessed by her gift of hospitality.

She is survived by her brothers, Thomas L. Hess and his wife Susan of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, and Lowell Hess of Mt. Vernon, Indiana.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2015, at St. Johns Family Funeral Home. A visitation will precede the service at 10 a.m.
