Thomas E. Butkiewicz

Retired U.S. Army Sgt. Thomas E. Butkiewicz of Palm Coast died Dec. 25, 2008, at his home. He was of the Catholic faith. He was 59. Sgt. Butkiewicz was a highly decorated Army combat veteran of the Vietnam War. He served as an Airborne Ranger Pathfinder with the 101st Airborne Division. After sustaining disabling wounds in combat he was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star for Valor, two Purple Hearts, Air Medal, Combat Infantryman's Badge, Brave Eagle Gold Coin and numerous Presidential and Unit Citations. He was a life member of the VFW and a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He will be remembered as a dedicated coach for youth baseball in Flagler County and an avid sports fan. He was a proud father, son and brother. He is preceded in death by his wife, Cheryl, and his father, Felix Butkiewicz. He leaves his mother, Lucille; sisters, Gloria and Beverly of Massachusetts; a brother, Paul D. Butkiewicz of St. Augustine; a daughter, Felicia; sons, Christopher and Hawklan of Palm Coast; along with grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements to be announced. Interment will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, D.C.
