Alex Shuda Obituary

Shuda, Alex "Al" R.

ALEX "AL" R. SHUDA, 77, of Jefferson, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, January 25, 2014. He was born July 17, 1936 in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, son of the late Julius J. and Esther (Groshek) Shuda. He graduated from Stevens Point High School in 1954 and the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point in 1959 with a degree in Education. It was while attending the University that he met Dorene (Testolin), his wife of 54 years.

He taught at the Boys School in Waukesha before entering the credit and finance industry. In 1968, Al and Dorene settled in Jefferson where Al spent the majority of his career at Schweiger Industries. He was also a "silent partner" with his wife at Dorene's Diamonds & Fine Jewelry in Jefferson, and with his son at Lake Country Heating and Cooling in Oconomowoc.

Al was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Jefferson and Crescent Bay Hunt Club, and in his retirement was a loyal volunteer at St.Vincent de Paul. He truly enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing golf. But most of all "he loved being with his family and friends."

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Dorene, of Jefferson, two daughters, Michelle (Jeff) McDermott and Suzanne (Daniel) Roth of Jefferson; two sons, Michael (Janet) Shuda of Monroe, and James (Ruth) Shuda of Jefferson; ten grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Margaret, and Elizabeth Shuda, Craig and Cassandra McDermott, Isaac and Alexis Roth, Megan, Amanda, and Chelsea Shuda; sisters, Rita Currie of Eau Claire and Patricia (Don) Prebs of Stevens Point, brothers Julius (Karen) Shuda of Stevens Point, James (Yvonne) Shuda of Roseville, Minnesota, Dennis (Susan) Shuda of Stratford, and Dale Shuda of Waukesha; also many nieces, nephews, God Children, and "Special Family" Debbie (Mike) Quale of Jefferson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister Delores, brother-in-law Bill Currie, sister-in-law Diane Shuda, and nieces Lisa Passarelli and Emily Shuda.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, February 1, 2014, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Jefferson with the Rev. Thomas Coyle officiating. Burial will follow in the Parish cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday, January 31, from 4 to 8:00 p.m., beginning with the rosary, and then again on Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.

Those wishing to express their sympathy through a memorial donation in Al's name may direct them to St. John the Baptist Catholic School, 333 East Church Street, Jefferson, WI 53549; St. John's Lutheran School, 232 East Church Street, Jefferson, WI 53549, or St. Victor's Catholic School, 1416 20th Ave, Monroe, WI 53566.
