Barbara Obst Obituary
Barbara A. Obst, "nee" Newby, age 79, entered into eternal life Wednesday, October 7 at 3:35 A.M. By her side were the loves of her life, her children and husband helping smooth her journey. She had been ill for almost 4 years before being diagnosed with cancer in April 2015.
Barbara entered this world September 12, 1936 in Stevens Point, the only child of Leonard and Dorothy Newby, attending McDill grade school and then P.J. Jacobs High where she was a cheer leader and baton twirler. Upon graduating in 1954 she worked for Hardware Mutual Insurance Company before meeting the love of her life Fred Obst in April 1956. They were united in marriage December 29, 1956 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stevens Point. They lived in Plover where they brought 4 children into the world, Tom, Karen, James, and Wendy, before moving briefly to Pine Island in Lee County, Florida in 1970. In 1971 they moved to the town of Linwood in Portage County and started to build their dream home on Fred's parent's farm where she lived and guided her children into adulthood.
She loved to cook on her Garland restaurant stove, sew dresses and party gowns for her girls, and to keep her flowers looking great in the patio and flower boxes. She was also a great animal lover and a member of the Airdale Terrier Rescue Association who always had cats and dogs under her care, the last ones were Mr. Bad Putty and Bruce Airdale. Barbara was a loving, giving, caring lady. Her family meant the world to her, and she was the world to her family.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Fredrick Henrick Johan Obst III; children, Thomas (Laura) Obst, Karen Obst, James (Zhiling) Obst, and Wendy (Peter) Dane; grandchildren, Hans Obst, Hannah Obst, Hunter Obst, Ian (Elizabeth) Kurzinski, Kaitlyn Kurzinski, Keegan Obst, and Conan Obst; and great-grandchildren, Liam and Emma Kurzinski.
A Funeral Service will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 12, 2015 at Boston Funeral Home with Rev. David Ficken presiding. A time of visitation will be held at the Funeral Home on Sunday, October 11 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on Monday from 12 Noon until the time of service. Burial will take place at Linwood Union Cemetery.

To know Barbara was to love her. She always had time for others and like to share her love with others. I know her first love was her family and was very proud of them all. Barbara was a wonderful neighbor with a beautiful, infectious smile and a warm heart to match. We enjoyed listening to the stories she would tell of her family, pets, and travels. Our hearts go out to her beloved family. May God grant each of them peace of heart.
