MR. Lutz was a great teacher and friend. He always brought a positive attitude and love for science to the classroom. He made such a positive impact in the lives of everyone around him. My love for science was started in Don“s classroom as was many others. What a legacy! He will surely be missed. Thoughts and prayers with his family.

Don was a fellow educator at my school for over 25 years. He was very innovative in his teachings and a strong believer in hands-on learning. He liked the middle school students and they knew it. Don loved the out of doors and was a firm believer that the environment needed to be protected and used properly. He frequently was doing teaching out in the field and instilling a true love of Mother Nature within his students; his wife oftentimes helped him with his student field trips. Don was involved in many science teaching and environment organizations and was recognized as a State Leader in Environmental Education. Don was a big strong man who was an avid runner in his younger years. He also was a successful wrestling coach. Don and his wife Alvie did a lot of traveling in their lives and enjoyed the warmer temps in Florida in recent years during the winter months. He liked his dogs and they went with Alvie and Don on their travels. Don was very trustworthy and had much common sense. He enjoyed living a simple life. Being very intelligent, Don was also a very avid reader. He had strong political beliefs and was always for the common man. I have great respect for Don. I will miss him. Don was a very good honest man and a trusted friend. He knew more about the environment than anyone else in the State of Wisconsin and was the modern day John Muir. He developed a love, appreciation, and respect of Mother Nature within all of his students and included many outdoor learning activities in his teaching lessons. Yes, he was an excellent teacher and role model. Don was a big guy and was oftentimes called Bigfoot because of the big heavy red winter jacket and big warm boots he wore when he would be out on the school grounds making snowshoeing trails for the students. He will be missed. He and his wife Alvie had a wonderful marriage and frequently worked together on school projects. They enjoyed their travels to Florida.
