Elmer Joseph Emig

Emig, Elmer Joseph born May 7, 1921, passed away quietly on March 3, 2007. His life was filled with many accomplishments and proud moments - the greatest of which was his family. Upon graduation from Beaumont High School in St. Louis, where he excelled in swimming and track and with the nickname 'Muscles', he entered the Navy at age 20 and was sent to Chicago for Naval Pilot Training and eventually to the Klamath Falls, Oregon Air Naval Base. It was there that he met his sweetheart Ruth Arlene Steinerson and was married on September 25, 1945. Well known in the painting industry in the St. Louis area, he actually started as an apprentice at age 18 with the Simon Painting Company and rose quickly to the positions of foreman, superintendent, and estimator while working for the Busch and Latta and Hartman and Walsh Painting Companies. Because of his work ethic and engaging personality, he earned great respect and many accolades from his peers and business associates. He was never one to ask anyone to do something that he would not or had not done himself. He is survived by the love of his life - his wife, Ruth Emig; his 4 children, Jeanne Yates, Joe Emig, Charles Emig and Kathy Savens; his 20 grandchildren and his 21 great-grandchildren;Services: Funeral Services will be held at the KUTIS Funeral Home at 10151 Gravois, Affton, at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 8. Viewing will be Wednesday, March 7, 5-9 p.m.
