I loved Proff Sauer for his thought provoking classes in Heat Transfer, back in 1965.
He had asked me to work by first principles. I will ever respect him for that advice.

Like he did for so many others, Dr. Sauer inspired my love of HVAC design when I took one of his classes at UMR in the mid '90's. He was one of the best instructors I've ever had. He had a rare ability to communicate with us on our level as beginners to HVAC instead of expecting us to automatically understand everything at a graduate level. I respected and admired him greatly. He will be missed.

My deapest condolences to his family on the loss of a great, great man.

Sincerely,

Marsha A. Smith, P. E.

Dear Mrs. Sauer and family,
I only had Dr. Sauer as an adviser for this past school year, but in that time, he was the most intelligent and direct adviser that I've had in my time at UMR. I may not have known him very well, but I am very grateful for his help.

I will make sure to keep him and all those affected in my prayers as well as pass the news along to my friends so that they may pray as well.

peace and love

Mary Jo,

Susan and I send our deepest condolences at this time. Though we have never met, my Mother, Emma Elizabeth Spaulding (nee Drannan) spoke of you often. Her mother was Elizabeth Drannan (nee Sauer). We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Mrs. Sauer and family,
As one of the many student engineers who used Dr. Sauer's textbooks at Rolla (E.Mech. '79), I remember Dr. Sauer and he was well known on campus. May God's peace be with him! May God's consoling love and compassion be with you all.

My sympathies go out to Hank's wife and family. My father and Hank were friends, and although I did not have the privelege of being one of Hank's students I did get to know him through my father and through ASHRAE. He was a wonderful mentor and friend, and he will be missed by many.

From humble beginnings, he excelled academically against many obstacles. He devoted his life to teaching and research for over 50 years. As a mentor he in turn has exponentially affected so many in his field. As if this wasn't enough, he instilled in his nine children a strong worth ethic, let no obstacle be an excuse not to provide excellence in all that you do. It was an honor to have known him. He was a great man and will be missed by many.

My sympathy to all of the family of Dr. Sauer. I first met Dr. Sauer as a student at UMR and have been blessed to know him since then professionally also. Dr. Sauer was the one who directed the start of my career in the HVAC industry and I thank him for that wisdom and guidance. One of my found memories at UMR is the day I got the first test back in his class and I got about a 63% (not good for me). The good news was that almost the entire class bombed the test.............he got our attention to listen closer the rest of the semester. Dr. Sauer has impacted the HVAC industry in great ways to help our country do better energy efficient building design to save energy.

As a young hope to be engineer, Dr.'s Sauer and Howell offered me the opportunity to begin to understand my profession. The training they offered me was excellent and has served me well for the last 30 years. Dr. Sauer not only offered me wisdom during my acedemic adventures but also offered me friendship. I always enjoyed catching up with him at ASHRAE meetings. He was always a source of wisdom for me and he will be missed.
I regret, due to ASHRAE commitements, that I will be unable to travel to rolla for the Funeral. My condolences to the family.

When I went to Rolla back in 1986 I had Howell for HVAC classes, but we worked with Hank's classes on Lab projects. He was a good teacher and will be missed.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Hank's wife and family. I never had the privelege of being one of Hank's students but I was fortunate to know him through the St. Louis Chapter of ASHRAE. I knew him as a professor who loved to teach and who loved his students. I will remember him as a great engineer and an even greater man, a man who valued excellence over acclaim and people over things. He will be missed.

Thanks Hank for all that you did for your students. I enjoyed talking with "the next generation" every year at the ASHRAE student meetings.
As the oldest of ten, I admire your lifestyle - may your advice be played out by your future generations.

Harry taught me at Rolla back in the late 60's and early 70's. Good teacher.
