I just heard about Mike this week and still can't believe that lively, funny, full of life guy is no longer with us. I worked at Maritz Travel Company from 1974 to 1981. Mike was a TD in the later years of my employment. We were all like high school and college friends. The motto was "work hard and play hard" and we did all that! It was always so much fun to run into Mike and to hear his stories. Mike was funny when he wasn't trying to be. He just made real life extra funny. I've run into Mike a few times over the years, but not in a very long time. That makes me sad. Virginia, we've met in passing, but I don't expect you to remember me. I am so, so sorry for your loss -- for you and for your daughter, Katie. I've never met Katie. I'm sure she's a wonderful combination of you and Mike. My thoughts and prayers are with you both. There's another incredible angel in heaven today. Sincerely,
Cory (Blum) Conroy

Virginia & Katie, So sorry to hear the sad news of Michael's untimely death. There were so many great memories! I'll never forget his great laugh and kindness. Plus the stories he could tell, what a comedian!! I was glad he was in our fraternity, TKE, at Missouri State in Springfield. But I'll I never forget the time that he made me stay the night at your house when I came in town to see, "The Who", perform at the Riverfront. He insisted that I stay the night, and in the morning cooked me a big and tasty breakfast. As I was leaving, he showed me Katie's new pet turtle that was just walking around the backyard. I just wish I would have come to see you guys more often. My deepest sympathy to you and your family. If there is anything I can do, let me know. He will be greatly missed!!!

Dear Virginia and Katie:
My heart is heavy for your loss and I am completely saddened for the passing of my friend. Mike had a true genuine quality of making people feel appreciated. Yes, his creative humor, priceless laugh, and compassion for life and people are all qualities I will never forget. Mike surrounded himself with what he loved the most - his family. I always felt his home was his refuge. Keep the faith, God will give you strength in ways you never thought possible. In deepest sympathy, Wendy Lanning Kammer

I had the chance to sit next to Mike at just about all of Katies softball games over the years and he was just the biggest sports fan and was so much fun to talk to throughout the games.Mike was at a ton of the games even with his busy travel schedule.Mike was very proud of his daughter and couldn't do enough for Katie.I think he was the proudest dad I know.My daughter and I will really miss Mike.

Virginia and Katie, I pray that God will bless you both and lessen the burden of your loss. Mike was one of the most genuinely nice people I have every known, always teasing someone or cutting up about something - making things fun. He will be greatly missed by everyone.

What a sad day! Everyone whose life Mike touched was truly blessed. What a great person and friend to all. When I came to St. Louis alone and lonely, Mike took me around, introduced me to everyone and made sure that I never felt alone again. How fortunate was I to have met Mike and become part of his short life here. Though the world is sad and mourns his loss, heaven is definitely a better, friendlier place with the addition of Michael W. McCarthy. He truly will be missed. We all loved him.

As I heard the news of Mike passing away, I was very sad. I started thinking of all the people that I have met in my life through Mike, the list went on and on it made me smile. It is a testament to his infectious personality and love of life that so many people thought of him as a friend. I will miss you.
