I had the priviledge of working with Mike for a short time. Even though I did not get the chance to know him well, we was always so kind, willing to help and with a smile on his face. He will be deeply missed. Your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I had the privilege of working with Mike over the past several months. We shared an office and through that time albeit short in comparison to others, we became very good friends. I am very thankful for that. I will never forget Mike and his enthusiasm for all that he loved and his good nature. He is greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire family.

Working with Mike was always fun. His enthusiasm and positive attitude was infectious; he impacted each of us on the Good Earth Tools IT team. He was never without a smile. Mike worked hard and left a lasting impression on everyone he worked with. He is sorely missed. We are blessed to have known and worked wth him.

Michael, every memory I have of you is you laughing and/or joking around. Even when you were in a serious conversation the smile was hiding just below the surface, ready to pop out at a moments notice. I can't think of a time when you didn't have a smile on your face or when you weren't laughing. You made a room brighter because of the joy you brought and you will be missed greatly.

Myself and the staff at Mike and Jeans home were lucky enough to have the opportunity to meet such an amazing person. We always loved when he would stop into the office with the puppies on their walks, come check out movies and discuss future plans with his wife and family. Our love and sympathy is with Jean and his family.

Mike and Josh were great friends of mine while living in San Pedro on Ft Mac. Mike was always great at being able to make people laugh when they were down or just in general. We may lost contact through our adulthood until facebook a year ago. Your memories will forever stay in my heart. Every time I see a mountain, a campground or a rainbow I will think of you and I ask God to please bring confort to Mike's wife Jean, Brother Josh and Parents.

Michael and his brother Josh were friends of mine while our dads were stationed on Ft. MacArthur AFB in Southern California. I remember the phases went through with clothes and music. I remember trips to Knotts Berry Farm, Magic Mountain and the days a few of us would spend in Mike's room feeding his snakes.
We may have gone off in different directions in life, but the memories and smiles remain a permanent fixture in the heart.
We shared the bond of being military brats and the life that came with it.
He once wrote me a letter while I was in the hospital. It was a difficult time, but I'll never forget how one letter brightened my day.
I am grateful for the short amount of time we were in each other's lives, and my heart goes out to Mike's family and brother Josh. I know how much he loved his brother.
May the good and happy memories help your hearts to smile during this time.

Michael you will forever be in heart. You were like a brother to me. All those summers you and Josh would come to St. Louis and stay with your Grandma and Grandpa Witteried and then stay at our house. You would always call me Aunt Maureen when you would want something. I hated when you would leave to go back home. I would miss you so much, but we or I would write you and wait and wait for a response but I never got one. I know how bad you felt about that so I finally recieved a letter from you in Sept. 2011 and that was the BEST letter I ever got. I will always keep that letter and know how much you really cared and loved me. I miss you and I love you! You will be forever with me!

Michael was not only my son-in-law but he was my buddy also. I will always remember his laugh, his smile and how he would drop anything he was doing to help another person. I do know that he made my daughter very, very happy. Words can't describe how much I loved him and how much he meant to me. I will miss him dearly and he will always be in my heart. My condolences to Mike sr, Mary and Josh.

" words can not express the extreme heartache and the profound loss we are feeling today. Mike was such a wonderful caring person, a truer friend could not be found, we were so shocked to hear this had happend to Mike of all people, an accomplished athlete, climber, runner, kayak and canoe.we have so many fond memories of Mike down at the river camp, the ladder still on the trees where he built the zip lines, one very high one only he dare to use and one medim size for us chickens who were not as physically accomplished as him. and Jean and Mike kayaking on the river with the two dogs. the trampoline and the fire pit he helped fuel with a trailer full of wood from Mike and Mary's home in charles town, wva. the many 4th of july celebrations we all shared and many many trips to the chinese carry out in woodstock.and the joy we all shared when we were witnesses to Mike and Jean's beautiful weding in st. louis, it was clear to all Mike had found his sole mate and Jean hers. our prayers will continue to go out to Mike and Mary,Jean and Josh. i know we will all continue to celebrate Mike's life thru laughter and tears. His legacy of love of life, family and friends will carry us thru until the day we all meet again

My heart will never be the same. Michael was my husband and my bestfriend. He always knew what to say to me to make me smile. His laugh was loud and strong and always a perment sound in our house. From the moment I met him and we started dating I woundered why he chose me how did I get so lucky to have such a handsome perfect guy in my life. He loved hard and strong. And lived his life just as hard and strong. He loved to be outside and just walk and be with me and the dogs. If you knew Mike your life was better because of that. He was the best man in the world and would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. I love him and will always love him and always keep him in my heart. I love you Michael my doodles.

Michael, Mary, Josh, and Jean,
We don't want to believe it either. There is no reasonable explanation for Mike leaving this world so soon. And what is left is sadness, doubt, questioning, and emptiness. I know we strive as humans to learn from experiences such as these and to in turn be grateful for every moment we have as we are for the people who continually bless our lives. But no one wants you to learn this through this experience. You are already experts at loving and kindness. We do wish you small moments of peace and hope that, with time, these moments grow longer. Know you are all in our hearts, as is your beloved son, brother, and husband.

I don't want to believe he has left us, he was so strong and active, how could such a thing like a heart attack on a running trail have befallen my son? He lived as an infant in Thailand and monthly crossed the Mekong River in banana boats, night climbed the highest mountain in CONUS, lived in Berlin before the wall came down, technical rock climbed high cliffs, loved camping in Michigan, and was undaunted by hardship. He was a hard worker be it computers or foundation up house construction. But besides being a rugged individual, he was so creative, so caring and loving and so much fun to be around. I missed him so much after he moved to Saint Louis, but now how -- oh God now!

Mike was a hugh part of our lives when the children were teens. Almost another uncle to my grandchildren, a comforting friend to us and a companion for my boys. We were blessed to have him with us for many family events and we had fun with him , his ready smile enhanced our lives, his solid outlook on life and his steady care of those he cared for helped to guide our paths to this day. Everything he did was with a special spark and he was tenacious when he was learning to do something until he did it well. I loved his laughter and Robert admired his strength. Brian told me that he will miss his laughter and patience in teaching him to do things. We are thankful he found the love of his life, Jean, and that they shared time together for there was an abiding love between them, she brought sunshine to his heart. We send love and prayers to his family, Mike surely was a part of ours. We will always love and miss him and treasure the moments he shared with us. Until we walk together again dear one we will hold your smile and laughter in our hearts.
