I worked with Steve for many years at SLU Law School. He truly was the "face" of the Law School. His devotion to the students was tangible. I have been thinking of him often lately as the season for March Madness is upon us. Oh how he loved this time of the year!

I was quite saddened to hear about the passing of Steve Smith. I attend SLU Law and graduated in 1983. I would not have been able to do that without Steve´s assistance. He was a counselor, a mentor and a friend. We spent many a Thursday night at Humphrey´s where he always entertained and encouraged me and my fellow students to not only work hard, but to also pause periodically and enjoy life.
As a struggling student Steve helped arrange odd jobs for me which included bartending at faculty parties. He helped me arrange a summer internship and advised me about my career path. He was a big influence on my life.
He was a class act and was and will always be loved by those who knew him.

I am so sorry to hear of Steve's passing. I have known Judy and Steve since my Eureka teaching years and they were always a power couple--managing what life threw at them with grace and strength. I loved Steve's daily pandemic "musings" on Facebook (someone should collect them and publish) and he always impressed me with his intelligence and wit. Sending hugs to Judy and her family. We love you.

Steve was such a kind man. He came to every Eureka High School Art Show and made me feel appreciated as a teacher. I'm happy he was a part of my life and workplace. ~ Diane Bashirian, Art Teacher, EHS

St. Louis and Eureka have lost a true renaissance man whose insights, humor and yest for livelong learning were evident for all who knew him. Although it's sad for all who knew and loved Steve I believe the ideals he stood for and the quiet passion with which he shared with others will make me a better person. His candle has burned out but the light from it will endure for a long, long time.

What a legacy! Steve was a friend to administrators, teachers, parents and especially students. He never lost sight of his why. I am a better person for having known and worked on issues with him. He quite simply gave a damn about human beings. Thanks Mr Smith for taking it on the cuff from the bad guys on behalf of the little guys.

I will miss my conversations with Steve and I am so sad for our loss. His family kindly shared Steve with all of the rest of us and I mourn their loss. Kind-hearted and able to view the future are two of the many traits Steve possessed that I admired most. The Cardinals and the Billikens lost one of their most loyal fans. Somehow I know he is still rooting for them. Judy, please allow the many good friends you have to help you adjust to this loss.

Steve was the unacknowledged leader of the Thursday evening gathering of mostly SLU folk at Humphrey´s. There were many lively discussions punctuated with many rounds of raucous laughter. Steve´s wit was always evident, as well as his caring for everyone there. He would counsel if needed. Steve was mentor to many, friend to all.
Miss you Steve and those halcyon Humphrey´s evenings which shone brightest when you were there.

Steve was such an important part of my SLU law school experience, both as a student and co-worker. I'll always remember him for his compassion, generosity, kindness and especially, his mischievous (and sometimes wicked) sense of humor. He was one of the good ones! My condolences to Judy, Aaron, Lara and all the family.

Steve Smith was the open face of SLU Law for over two decades. He was the first contact for hundreds of new students, an ongoing counselor to many, and the point of connection for hundreds of alumni. In many ways, Steve was "the office manager" for faculty and staff. He was a longtime Billiken fan and a true friend.
