Jean Schiebel Obituary
St. Peter - Jean (GiGi) Elaine Schiebel (Eaton), age 87, of Brooklyn Center, MN, lost her courageous battle with lymphoma on June 28, 2025.
Jean (GiGi) was born on August 20, 1937, in St. Peter, MN to Clinton and Gladys (Trowbridge) Eaton. Jean grew up in St. Peter, having graduated from St. Peter High School in 1956. She then worked as a nursing assistant at the St. Peter State Hospital. Jean married Robert Schiebel, of St. Peter in January 1959. and soon moved to Hopkins, then Brooklyn Center where they raised their family. Jean was very involved in her children's lives; room mother, band mom, and chauffeur.
Jean was a longtime community volunteer. She served 10 years on the Brooklyn Center Charter commission, and volunteered for many years at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, CEAP, and Relay for Life. Jean and her husband Robert (Bob) were also longtime supporters of the Palmer Lake VFW, Brooklyn Center American Legion, St. Peter American Legion, Minnesota Brass Drum and Bugle Corps, and the St Peter Govenaires.
As a lifelong DFLer, she knocked on many doors, phone banked, and volunteered for too many candidates to mention. She attended multiple caucuses, elected to numerous DFL officer positions, and attended many district and state conventions as a delegate. Jean was also a full delegate at several national conventions. In 2004 she received the DFL's 'Woman of Distinction' honor. Jean was elected to be an Elector for John Kerry that same year.
Jean is survived by her children Linda Freemon, Kurt (Andrea Ferguson), and Karl; many grandchildren, multiple great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild (Celeste).
Preceded in death by husband Robert Dale Schiebel; parents Clinton and Gladys (Trowbridge) Eaton; Siblings James Freeman Eaton and Cleo Patricia Miller.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 7025 Halifax Ave. N., Brooklyn Center, MN. Visitation 1 hour prior to the service.
Internment will be August 2nd at 11:00 am at Calvary Cemetery in St. Peter, MN
