Joseph Hice Obituary

Joseph Leo Thomas Hice, age 29, of Burr Oak, passed away Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017, in Burr Oak Township due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was born March 23, 1987, in Sturgis, a son of Steven and Jane (Cobb) Hice.
Joe resided his whole life in the Sturgis, Burr Oak and Bronson area and was a member of the Sturgis High School Class of 2005.
He had a true passion for tree-trimming and logging and owned and operated Hice's Cutterman Tree Service. He also had worked at several area manufacturing companies.
Joe was highly active in Sturgis Toy Run. He began volunteering with the organization before he was old enough to become a member. Joe loved riding motorcycles, had a real talent involving anything mechanical and will always be remembered for being the "adrenalin junky" he was.
He is survived by his companion and life partner, Shawna Sexton; three sons, Chance, Michael and Brayden Hice; his parents, Steven and Jane Hice of Burr Oak; three brothers, Nicholas (Rebecca) Hice of Constantine, Christopher (Maria Dercole) Hice of Sturgis and Steven (Emily) Hice of Columbus, Ohio; grandparents Clifford and Phyllis Hice of Sturgis; in-laws Steven and Denise Sexton of Coldwater and Teri and Patrick Martin of Coldwater; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by grandparents, Edsel and Lucille Cobb.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Rosenberg Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 807 E. Chicago Road, Sturgis. Funeral services celebrating the life of Joseph Hice will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Pastor Jared Bryant of Riverside Church in Three Rivers will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Adams Cemetery in Bronson.
The family suggests those wishing to make a memorial donation in Joe's memory consider the YouCaring page that has been established for future needs of his sons, www.youcaring.com/inmemoryofjoehice.

I will always remember Joe as being part of The Honey Lake Gang in the summers. He was a good kid and fit right in with the others. He and Shawna had something special from the start and it has lasted a long time.

Joe you will be missed by both your family and your friends. Rest in peach until we meet again.
