Thomas Strang Obituary

Thomas A. Strang, age 70, of White Pigeon, passed away early Wednesday morning, Feb. 10, 2021, at Ascension Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo.
He was born Aug. 15, 1950, in Sturgis, a son of the late Lewis A. and Norma J. (Chapman) Strang.
Tom resided his entire life in the White Pigeon and Sturgis area and was a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1969. Following his graduation from high school, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam, earning the rank of SP-4 and awarded a Purple Heart.
He had been employed by Ross Laboratories until he was involved in a serious motorcycle accident that forced him to retire.
Tom was a member of Capt. John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW and Neuman-Wenzel Post #73 American Legion. He had a true appreciation for automobiles and motorcycles and enjoyed taking his restored Volkswagen Bug to area car shows. Tom loved his home and property on Saunder Shores in White Pigeon.
He is survived by a daughter, Nichola (Jason) Bartels of Austin, Texas; three grandchildren, Clara Suzanne, Emma Caroline and Molly Elisabeth; a sister, Lori (Paul) Richmond of Vicksburg; a brother, Gary A. (Fayetta) Strang of Constantine; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Stephen Strang; a niece, Kim Richmond; and two nephews, Lewis Strang II and Chad M. Strang.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Saturday at the Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis. Private family services will follow visitation, with full military honors conferred by Capt. John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW and the U.S. Army Honor Guard.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and restriction of gatherings, limitation of no more than 25 people in the funeral home at a time will be followed and face masks are required.
The family suggests those wishing to make a memorial donation in Tom's memory consider Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS, 66675.
