Merlin Roy Markel, 84, of Diamondhead, MS, passed away on Wednesday, July 4, 2007 in Gulfport, MS. He was born in New Orleans, LA and was a resident of Waveland and Diamondhead, MS for the past 53 years. He was a member of St. Clare Catholic Church in Waveland. Merlin was the owner of Markel Industries Inc. in Waveland since 1956. He was a member of the Bay-Waveland Yacht Club and the Pass Christian Isles Golf Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert W. and Clara Markel and his brother, Norbert W. Markel.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Doris Schmidt Markel of Diamondhead, MS, his son, Terry Markel and his wife, Lucy of Diamondhead, MS. sister, Ardath M. Cawley of New York, and his granddaughter, Diana C. Markel of Metairie, LA.
The visitation will be Friday, July 6, 2007 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Edmond Fahey Funeral Home in Bay St. Louis, MS. The Prayer Service will be at 3:00 p.m. Interment will be private at Gulf Coast Memorial Cemetery and Mausoleum in Bay St. Louis, MS.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Friends of the Animal Shelter or Hope Haven.
Edmond Fahey Funeral Home in Bay St. Louis, MS is in charge of the arrangements.

We loved "Foozy." He and Dot made a fun-loving duo to visit. Uncle Merlin always made us feel welcomed in his home and in his life. We will never forget the years of enjoyment we had. He will be missed.
