Donald Kuhl Obituary

Kuhl Kuhl, Donald Glen 89, of Plantation, FL, died peacefully on Sunday, July 15th. He was a man who cherished family and his faith. God blessed him with Em Turner Nickinson Kuhl, his beloved wife of 50 years, who died in 2000; his second wife, Dot Rogers Kuhl, who died in 2003; and later predeceased in 2009 by his dear friend, Alison Crowe. Other family members he adored and miss him are his sister, Betty Kuhl Nickinson (Ted-Em s brother) of Pensacola, Fl., and his five children: Mary Glen Chitty of Boston, MA; Phillips Lee Kuhl (Karen) of Natick, MA; Marjorie Turner Kuhl Hollman (Jon) of Bellingham, MA; Beth Kuhl Nelson (David) of Derry, NH; and Rob Kuhl (Hester) of Jacksonville, FL. He cherished all eleven grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, as well as his aide, Mimi Fertile, who enabled him to remain independent and very well cared for over this last year. Don was drafted into the Army in 1943 and served through WWII eventually retiring from the Army Reserves as a Colonel. He graduated from The University of Miami in 1945 and worked at Southern Bell Telephone Company for over 30 years. He also enjoyed serving in numerous capacities on several local Presbyterian and Community church congregations. Don and Em also enjoyed turning their yard on 2nd Ct into a tropical paradise, once the children moved out, as active members of The Rare Fruit and Vegetable Council of Broward County. His home was always open to anyone in need and his life was a testament to the love and grace God has given us. Don and his daughter Marjorie recently completed a book of his family stories, From Minnesota to Florida: Finding a Place in the Sun Kuhl Family Stories http://tinyurl.com/cwk3prv A celebration of his life will be held at Covenant Village in Plantation, FL on Sunday July 29, 2012 at 2pm.

Condolences to the siblings, who always honored your father. You mother would be pleased with how you cared for your father with frequent visits from distant homes. We remember him as a delightful gentleman and all of you -- and your families -- with much love.
