Dear Mel & family:
I just wanted to tell you what a wonderful life Jerry Mitchell was. I will always be eternally grateful to God that God sent Jerry as a part of the Metropolitan Community Churches during those early days of my visits to Fort Lauderdale when our Church was first founded there, Jerry housed me. He always had a wonderful sense of humor and a deep love of God and his Church. I always looked forward to seeing him.
Mel, know you are in the prayers of our entire movement. Jerry rests in the loving arms of his God and I know he's going to meet us just inside the Eastern Gate when God calls us all home.
Love,
Troy

Mel,
May the memory of Jerry's love remain in your heart forever. He is not gone, but just waiting in a different place until the two of you can be together again. He will continue to watch over you and protect you with his love and understand as he did in life.
Love, Regina

Jerry will be long remembered for his good deeds for his community. He was there when others were not. We shall miss our dear friend! You both have been a part of our lives for over 20 plus years and we have valued our friendship that was solid as a rock. Our prayers are with and for you always. We are here whenever you need a listening ear.

MEL, JERRY WILL FOREVER BE ONE OF THE "ORIGINALS". HE WAS CERTAINLY THE FOUNDATION OF OUR CHURCH, THROUGH THICK AND THIN. HIS ZEST FOR LIFE WILL BE SORELY MISSED BY US ALL. I AM SO ESPECIALLY GRATEFUL FOR THE SHORT TIME I SHARED WITH HIM NEAR THE END. I KNOW HIS MOTHER, THELMA, WAS RIGHT THERE TO WELCOME HIM HOME WITH A "WELL DONE".
I MISS HIM.

TIME IS
Too Slow for those who Wait
Too Swift for those who Fear
Too Long for those who Grieve
Too Short for those who Rejoice
But for those who Love, Time is Eternity.
Mel, We love You and will always be here for You.

Mel:
Know that our hearts are heavy and our minds are full of beautiful memories of Jerry. Take comfort in knowing that Jerry is now as Beautiful an ANGEL in Heaven as he was a beautiful human here with us.
We love you & will always be here in love & support. God Bless!

It doesn't seem possible that Jerry Mitchell could be gone. He just seemed invincible! I can picture the many dozens of young men that he loved as his own sons who were stolen from us by AIDS. He was the family that many of them did not have. They have given him a welcome in Heaven that is beyond anything that we can imagine. We have lost a true poineer, a fighter for equality for all, and a great man.
