I had the privilege of working with John for 18 years. I grew up without a father and could always turn to John for fatherly advice in the raising of my own children. After hearing John sing "Daddy's Little Girl" at Jen's wedding, that inspired me to use the song for a video at our daughter's wedding. At both weddings, there wasn't a dry eye in the house.
Thanks John and God bless.

Big John, You left a profound impression on everyone you met. Whenever I hear the song "Daddy's Little Girl" I will always have a tear in my eye, and your memory in my heart!
The world has lost a true example of a good person but I am sure heaven is filled with Irish lullabys tonight!

Sandusky family,
The sparkle in John's eyes always gave away the gruff exterior. John loved to pick on us in the media, but we knew it was all part of the act. He was a gentle bear of a man who loved life and football. Gentlemen of his measure are hard to find in this life. I am so glad for the time I was lucky enough to spend with him. Men like John are the people you remember all your life. I'm not sure how man people like John the world can afford to lose. Rest in peace Coach, and have fun with your buddies who are up there with you.

Dear Shirley and Family,
My prayers are with you at this very sad time. My memories of John are of the happy times we shared together during my very first year of teaching at St. Bernadette school in Hollywood.
John was a true gentleman with a kind and gentle heart. He always made me smile. He made me feel welcome when I visited, and we always shared a good laugh or two.
During the years we've lost touch...but you both are in my heart forever.
Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers.
Love,
Beth H. from Massachusetts

Coach,
I met you at John's Barber Shop in Hollywood and found you to be a gentleman off the field, just as you were on the football field. Thank you for the '72 Dolphins, we will never forget.
God Speed Coach!
