Lee Devane Obituary

Born in Albany, NY to Leo and Rose Devane, he grew up in Brooklyn and Queens, NY. He graduated at the top of his class at Andrew Jackson High School in 1945. He then served honorably in the U.S. Navy as a petty officer in WWII in The Atlantic Theatre of Operations. After his service he attended Hofstra College and graduated in 1951 with a B.A. in English. He played basketball and football and received varsity letters. He met the love of his life in Brooklyn, Eugenie Mathisen, and they married in 1952. They were married for 66 years. In 1955, they had their only child, Kevin William. In the years after college he worked for Heinz G.E. credit and taught school. But he followed his passion which was bowling. His resume of bowling included, US Naval Station, Boca Chica, FL; Chancellor Lanes in Irvington, NJ; Mid State Bowl in East Brunswick, NJ; Carolier Lanes in North Brunswick, NJ; Shore Lanes in Asbury Park, NJ; Manor Lanes in Wilton Manors, FL; and Flamingo Lanes in Ft Lauderdale, FL. He was also involved in travel and owned Lee Travel in Edison, NJ and Coral Springs Travel in Coral Springs, FL. They resided in North Brunswick, NJ until Lee and Jean moved to Florida in 1981 and flourished in the city. They resided in Coral Springs and Pompano Beach. He was a long time member of The Pompano Beach Power Squadron. He was district commander and covered from Vero Beach to Key West. He was a great boating enthusiast and owned and enjoyed many boats. He was also invoved in Nobel PT Condo Association for a number of years. He is survived and remembered by his wife, Eugenie, of 66 years. His son, Kevin William, and grandson and granddaughter, Ryan and Katelyn. All condolences may be sent to Oakmont Village of Davie 8201 Sterling Rd, Davie, FL, 33328. It has been many, many years -- but I still have fond memories of Lee, especially when I would stay in Queens and visit the lake. Thinking of you and sending prayers.
