Leyla Kornhaber Obituary

Leyla Kornhaber - 3/5-27 - 12/11/17. Predeceased by cherished husband Eugene (Chick), beloved son Roger, mother Annette Rocchio, brother Myron Brown, father George Brown, brother and sister-in-law Sam and Doris Greenspan, brother-in-law Bernard Kornhaber, nephews Dennis Greenspan and Mark Kornhaber. Known to her family and husband as Cissy, she and Chick began their married life in Bronx, N.Y. on 4/20/47, then moved to Long Island. In 1966, they relocated to Philadelphia to open their own very successful bagel bakery, along with Chick's brother Bernie and wife Joyce. They enjoyed a 30+ year retirement in Coconut Creek, Florida, with a brief interlude in Houston, Texas to open a bagel bakery for their children. Leyla was a loving and much-loved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who always tried to help her family whenever she could. She and Chick enjoyed many trips to Las Vegas. Leyla was an avid mahjong and card player all her life, with more than her share of winnings. Survivors: daughter Robyn Gavrila (Ed), son Jay Kornhaber (Sheryl), grandchildren Dana Gavrila (Ben Pigati), Annette (Annie) Rosenfeld (Greg), step-granddaughter Kara Kochenderfer (Mace), great-grandchildren Eugene (Geno), Leopold (Leo), Beau, Emma, and Oliver, sister-in-law Joyce Kornhaber, nieces Carolyn Brody (Farrell) and Lori Kornhaber (Leslie). Leyla was buried next to her husband and son at Star of David, North Lauderdale, Florida on Thursday, December 14.
