Marcia Patch Obituary

Marcia Miriam Patch, daughter of William J and Patricia M Patch, was born August 20, 1949.

At an early age, she enjoyed boating on the St Lawrence River with her parents, brother and sister. She attended public schools and graduated from Dryden High School in Dryden, New York. Marcia went on to receive a Bachelor's Degree from SUNY Oswego followed by a Master's Degree from SUNY Brockport.

She met the love of her life – Tim Thompson - on a racquetball court in the late 1970's. Their adventures spanned the US, the Bahamas, Hawaii and the Azores. They were very big NASCAR fans and traveled to many races. The house boat she had shared with her parents found its way to Seneca Lake in NY, where they enjoyed many happy summer days. They always loved the ocean and spending time at their favorite watering hole, The Careless Navigator.

She and Tim bought their ocean dream home in Ft Lauderdale in 1995. The years until his death in 2013 were filled with friends, golf and countless memorable house parties. Holidays and Air Shows were amongst the most memorable. Their adventures and their celebrations yielded many, many friends.

Marcia was well read, well-spoken and quick witted. In 2010, she was acknowledged with special editorial assistance in a book written by J. Piccarreto. She was very intelligent and so intuitive that she was able to adapt to any career situation that she found herself in. Her many hats included teaching English, technical writing, a certified windsurfing instructor on Canandaigua Lake, bartending, business owner and running the administrative operations of MDLR Inc.

Her spirit was always enriched by the simple beauty of nature. She loved all creatures but especially "four footers". Mr. Monday, Jack, Murray and many others that she named that we will never know. She found peace in earth and sky – watching trees dance, clouds change and bodies of water in any form. She was a long-standing member of the Nature Conservancy and of the ASPCA.

She is survived by her brother Michael Leroy Patch, Nancy Jo Patch and Justin Michael Patch; her stepson Garret Thompson, Michele Lanno-Thompson, Nicholas Lanno and Jordan Lanno.

I miss her everyday. I have so many wonderful memories with her. I took care of her during the hardest time in her life. Even as her memories left she remained a happy bubbly empathetic loving woman. I thank her for having the opportunity to be in her life. I will always remember and love all of our time together. I miss and love you Marcia.

I knew Marcia when I was a little girl. Our families vacationed together at her family´s rustic compound - an old resort - on a wilderness lake in Ontario. I believe it was Ghoul Lake, and I remember the year that a family member had electricity and running water installed. Marcia was so angry that it would spoil the beautiful wildness of the place. I agreed. I am not surprised to see she was a member of the Nature Conservancy. My condolences to her family. I admired her.

I had the very good fortune of meeting Marty when we were both part of the SUNY Consortium at the University of Nottingham. I recall a charming chat on the MS Aurelia as we sailed from NYC to Southampton in September 1969 and regular encounters during that forever-in-memory year in England with her and the 18 other SUNYites who were with us. RIP. Heart-felt condolences to her family.

Tim and Marcia were among my closest friends in life. Countless gatherings and memories that AaI will hold dear forever. Marcia was the most thoughtful, caring and loving special friend I have known. I cannot honor her memory enough but to keep her alive in my thoughts and share my memory of her with my friends and family, many of which have known her.
