Philip Kearney Reed

February 28, 1943 - March 5, 2024

Philip was born February 28, 1943 to Amelia and Michael Reed in Salinas, California where the family farmed in nearby Greenfield. He passed away March 5, 2024 of kidney failure.

Philip graduated at King City High School and went on to obtain an accounting/business education at Cal Poly University.

In 1972 Philip's father passed away prematurely. Philip stepped up to the challenge of running the family business and managed to hold on to the farm and ranch during a very difficult time. Philip leased the farm and moved to Santa Ynez Valley in 1984.

Philip and Dessie Schmidt were married in 2002 in Buellton, Ca. Philip's rural upbringing and Christian roots developed him into a person that was a cherished friend to many and a wonderful family oriented man. He was a dedicated son to mom Emma and as Dessie's husband he became a beloved father and grandfather to her children and grandchildren as well as having already been a father/grandfather figure to his nephews and their children. Philip was always available to help friends and family when in need whether by listening to problems or giving of his time and/or financial support.

Philip is survived by his wife Dessie (Dee) Reed, step-sons Jason and Jeremy Schmidt, step-grandsons Toby and Chase Schmidt, nephews Kenneth, Kevin, James and Parker Reed and their families.

To say that this man will be missed does not do justice to the feelings so many have at his loss.

Philip's favorite scripture was Matthew 24:13: But he who endures to the end shall be saved. Philip, you endured to the end! We will see you again when we are all made brand new.

Graveside services will be held March 22, 2024 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Solvang, CA at 1:00 pm.
