Hank was my handsom cousin, and I will always miss him. He was special in so many ways. One day I will see him again, when Jesus takes me home. I love you Hank.

Jim,
I was so sorry to hear about your father's passing. He was truly blessed with the gift of touching the lives of others and will be truly missed.
Please extend my condolences to the rest of your family. You all are in my thoughts and prayers.

To the man that made math make sense. He challenged us enough to make an A feel like climbing Mt. Everest. You will not be forgotten.

Indeed, one of my strongest influences and foundation builders for math as I moved forward to earn an engineering degree.
I have learned that superior scholars can make learning palatable for the lay man. This is what Mr. G. did. It wasn't easy, by any stretch of the imagination, but he made it make sense then and still to this day.
We have lost a jewel. God Bless his family during this time of bereavement.

Mr. Garland was undoubtedly the BEST math teacher I ever had. He was a big part of how it became my favorite subject. I'm sure that he was as much a blessing to his family as he was to me in the classroom. The family will be in my thoughts and prayers as GOD has called him home. With deepest sympathy.. Mr. Garland was and still is the only teacher that made math easy to understand for me. He was Florida High's diamond in the ruff. I hope the family is able to rejoice his life completely and mourn briefly, that is the way we saw him live. My prayers go out to family and friends.

I consider Mr. Garland my first "real" math teacher. I'll never forget his forgiving stare when he asked you a question and expected you to get it right, but you failed. He made me want to try harder. Mr. Garland will definitely be missed.......my heart goes out to his family.

I still tell the story today of trying to sit in the front row so I wouldn't have to wear my goofy classes in Mr. Garland's class. He wrote so tiny though that I would still have problems reading the board. He would always call on me when I didn't wear my glasses and when I couldn't read the board he would ask me where they were.
He was a great teacher and will be truly missed.

Will never forget "Hank". He had the ability to single you out at any given time while the rest of the class would laugh as well as learn something new each time. Ill never forget the "point slope formula" incident. Some of you may know what Im talking about.
(Brooks Baldwin) Hank will be missed.

20 years ago at this time, I had just gotten an "A" from Mr. Garland in Algebra I Honors. Earning a great grade from Mr. Garland was so elating.
Mr. Garland, you were one of the best teachers I ever had and you were a great asset to Florida High's math department. Very few teachers inspired me the way you did, and your wonderful sense of humor will be remembered forever.

I went on to be a math teacher too. Do I need to say who was very influential in my decision and after who's classroom I tried to model my own? Probably not. Thank you Mr. Garland for the long-lasting impression you made on me--personally and professionally. The Garland family is in our prayers.

Mr. Garland was one of the best teachers at Florida High. He tempered his teaching of algebra, etc. with a dry wit which made all the "x-equals" stuff all the more interesting. He was also blessed beyond measure by a loving wife and large family.
Mrs. Garland, Kim, Kevin, etc: please know that you are in our prayers.
Your friend,
Joe

Mrs. Garland:
When my family first moved to Tallahassee, you, Mr. Garland and Kevin and Kim were our first neighbors. We have memories of basketball at your house! Our condolences are with you and the boys at this time.
