John Poppell Obituary

John Pope Poppell PERRY - John Pope Poppell, 91, who retired as a bus driver for Taylor County schools, died Tuesday, April 29, 2003, in Tallahassee. The service will be at 10 a.m. EDT Saturday at Westside Baptist Church in Perry, with burial at Pisgah Cemetery. Joe P. Burns Funeral Home chapel in Perry (850-584-4149) is handling arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32308. Survivors include three sons, Charles Poppell (and wife Janet M.) of Perry, Jerry Poppell (and wife Virginia F.) of Mesa, Ariz., and Ralph Poppell (and wife Connie G.) of Vero Beach; two daughters, Wanda Colson (and husband Mack) and Christine Thompson (and husband Hal), both of Perry; two sisters, Lydia Lynn and Lou Ellen Parker; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his best friend and wife of 67 years and four months, Mary Elsie Godwin Poppell, in 1999. WHAT A BLESSING IT MUST HAVE BEEN TO HAVE HAD SUCH A WONDERFUL MAN FOR SUCH A LONG LIFE.WE WERE FORTUNATE AS WELL TO HAVE HIM FOR A SCHOOL BUS DRIVER FOR SO MANY YEARS. OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH THE FAMILY. WILMA,JOHNNY AND JANIE BURKE.
