Joseph "The Rock" Inwang

Joseph Inwang Obituary

Joseph Inwang Joseph "The Rock" Inwang, 25, who worked in real estate at Inwang Realty, a branch of a company organized in New York by his brother, died Friday, June 27, 2008, in Rosedale, Md. He also worked with Phi-Ya House Entertainment Company that he organized with the help of his older brother to bring attention, crowns and awareness to different health-care campaigns. The service will be at 3 p.m. EDT today, July 12, at Strong & Jones Chapel (850-224-2139), with burial at at later date in Nigeria. Joseph is survived by his parents, Patrick and Vicky Inwang, and siblings Victor, Emmanuel and Glory. He had one nephew in the states, Victor Inwang Jr., and a large extended family in Nigeria. Joe was born in Miami, Fla. Joe attended Lear Preparatory of Miami Beach for primary school. He graduated with honors from Highland Oaks Middle and North Miami Beach High schools. Joe attended Florida State University, where he pursued a double major in chemical and petroleum engineering. Joe was a genius, breezing through with college honors calculus and post math studies. At FSU Joe competed with athletes destined for professional football and gave several of them a run for the money. Joe worked hard and conditioned his body as an athlete and mimicked a rock. Thus, the nickname, "The Rock." Joe towered over his older brothers at 6 feet, 1 inch, but never, ever lost his humble quality. Joe became so big he literally walked amongst his family as a bodyguard, defending his older siblings and parents when necessary.

Although he is gone in the physical, I know that he still lives in the spirit. For God created all, every man and woman, for a specific purpose, so those having the faith should know that his physical death is not in vain. In 1 Thessalonians, Paul writes, "...and the dead in Christ shall rise." So I, believing that every man, woman, and child born under the Sun in all creation shall one day see Christ and be risen again. So therefore, we rejoice not on the dead, but in the hope that the dead will rise again to continue to live in the glory of God. As a good friend of the family, though I didn't know much about Joe's history, I knew one thing that he was a very strong Black man. In a few words, He stood his ground. He had a presence about him that simply said, "I am about God's business," no questions asked. He had hopes and dreams, and I personally believed THEY WERE FULFILLED AS GOD HAD PREDESTINED. He persisted with his dreams. In learning of his passing, I feel great grief and dissapointment. Though we were very distant in relationship, I must know that our spirits shared a bond. Now that he is gone away, I make a mental note of how precious life can be. I am just proud to boast that it is good that Joe lived his life for the good of the people. He was a good man who lived a good life and leaves an impressionable mark in my heart and mind to continue to press on and fight the fight that We all as African Americans will continue to fight. May God Bless the family of Joseph Inwang and bring to them comfort in the time of their distress. May he rest his spirit upon all of the aching souls and minds to ensure them that THIS TOO SHALL COME TO PASS. God bless and let's keep the faith!
