Monica Bannister Obituary

Monica M. Bannister Monica M. Bannister, 85, died Monday, Dec. 12, 2005. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. EST Jan. 13 at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, Timberlane Road Chapel (850-893-4177). Monica was born in London, England, and lived in Toronto, Ontario, Canada; Deerfield Beach; Stuart; and Hayesville, N.C., before moving to Tallahassee in 1995. She was a commissioned officer in the British Royal Air Force during World War II and was one of the first women to be trained in plotting radar. She received the Mention in Dispatchers from the king in 1945. She owned her own florist shop in Deerfield Beach. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, affectionately known as "Gog." She was an Elder and Deacon at the Community Presbyterian Church in Deerfield and a member of Fellowship Presbyterian Church in Tallahassee. Survivors include a daughter, Penny Rowlands (and husband David) of Tallahassee; two grandchildren, Kimberly Green (and husband Hayes) of Tallahassee and Guy Rowlands (and wife Naomi) of Orlando; her great-granddaughter, Rebecca Lynn Rowlands; her sister, Laurie Kotch; and two nieces, Emma Kotch and Sophie Kotch, both of London. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Howard G. Bannister.
