Phyllis Miller Obituary

Phyllis Rueggeberg Miller Phyllis Rueggeberg Miller, 83, an artist, died Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2005, at home after a long struggle with Alzheimer's Disease. A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. EST Monday at Four Oaks Community Church Ministry Center, 3361 Raymond Diehl Business Lane. A graveside service will be Wednesday at Pisgah Gardens Cemetery in Brevard, N.C. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Open Arms Pre-School, Mount Pisgah Lutheran Church, 2606 Chimney Rock Road, Hendersonville, NC 28792. Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, Riggins Road Chapel (850-877-8191) is handling arrangements. A talented watercolorist, Mrs. Miller served the art community of Jacksonville for more than 20 years, directing an art gallery at one time and exhibiting her works, including several one-artist shows. She later took her talents to the mountains of North Carolina, where she taught watercolor and exhibited in Brevard, Hendersonville and several other areas of the state. With her husband, Ed, she supported the art community of Brevard for a number of years through their gallery, "The Hang Up," on Main Street in downtown Brevard. Ed and Phyllis Miller together designed and installed a series of stained-glass windows for Mount Pisgah Lutheran Church in Hendersonville. Mrs. Miller is remembered by her children and grandchildren as a patient woman of great faith - a lover of God, his people and his beauty. Always patient in her years of struggle with illness, her family rejoices that she has entered into joy in the presence of her Saviour whom she loved so much. Phyllis Miller is survived by her son, Rusty Miller of Tallahassee; two daughters, Prudence Sloderbeck (and husband Michael) of Tallahassee and Priscilla Gossman (and husband Paul) of Issaquah, Wash.; and three grandchildren, Christen Sloderbeck of Birmingham, Ala., Paul Sloderbeck of Tallahassee and Sarah Gossman of Issaquah. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward H. Miller. A devoted wife, mother and artist, she dedicated her life to serving God and enjoying the beauty of his creation.
