Robert Padgett Obituary

Robert Harrison Padgett

Air Force Major (Ret)

Air Force Major (Ret) Robert Harrison Padgett went home to his Father Friday, December 27, 2013 following a battle with lung cancer. Bob was born July 9, 1938 in Baton Rogue, Louisiana to E.P. and Doveree Padgett. He is survived by his wife of 54 years Lois Evans Padgett, a daughter Angela Padgett-Battles of Perry, a son Robert (Pamela) of Springfield, VA and three grandchildren James Battles of Perry, Heather and Robbie Padgett of Springfield. He is also survived by a brother, Ray Padgett (Margaret) of Perry and a sister, Marilyn Pepper (Leonard) of Tallahassee as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Bob graduated from Waycross, GA high school and attended Florida College before enlisting in the Air Force. He was selected for the Airman Education and Commissioning Program, which sent him to Florida State University. He earned a bachelor's degree in meteorology and was commissioned a second lieutenant . His 20-year Air Force career took him to Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Michigan, Colorado, Wyoming, Virginia, Alaska and Vietnam. He retired from the service in Alaska and spent the next 17 years in Anchorage as a real estate agent, ultimately owning his own firm. In 1989 he and Lois moved to Lake Talquin in Leon County and later to Perry to assist in caring for Bob's mother.

Bob was an avid fisherman, spending many weekends catching salmon on the Kenai River, and later fishing off his dock at Lake Talquin. He was also a dedicated reader and his Kindle was always at his side with over 400 books in the cloud.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Helping Hands of the Shelter, Inc., 602 West Hampton Springs Ave., Perry, Fl 32347 or to Covenant Hospice, 1545 Raymond Diehl Road, Suite 150, Tallahassee, FL 32308.

I love you my baby brother. You were such a good brother, but it was time to go live with Mom and Dad and of course my sweet Daniel. Take him hunting and fishing. I know he was the first to meet you and take you to Mom and Dad. You really were a special guy. I miss you, but know you are without pain. Lois will be fine. She knows you are in Heaven without pain. I was so proud to be your sister.
Thank you for being my brother.
