Anthony Houllis Obituary

HOULLIS, Anthony Michael a lifelong resident of Tarpon Springs passed away Nov. 23, 2011 at the age of 91. Anthony was deeply loved by his family who stayed by his bedside during his illness. He was born on Christmas Eve 1919 to Michael and Anastasia Houllis. Anthony is survived by two sisters, Lula Alexiou and Mary Yanna and was proceed in death by three brothers, Nick, Manuel, and George Houllis. Anthony better known as "Tony", caught the Epiphany Cross in 1938 and was honored as the oldest living Cross Receiver in 2009 by the Greek Community. Tony played quarterback for Tarpon Springs High School and after graduating served in the Air Force Signal Core in WWII for four years as a Radio Administrator. During that time he was stationed in London, Paris and Germany. After returning Tony worked as a Manager for Pappas Restaurant in St. Petersburg and Tarpon Spring for 35 years. Tony met and married the love of his life in 1941, Bertha Pappas. They enjoyed 70 years of marriage and had two sons, Michael and Louis Houllis. Tony was a beloved and devoted "Papou" to Haven Chrysakis, Brook Stamas, Anthony Houllis, and Yota Houllis. He shared his love of the water, fishing and football with his children and grandchildren and has left a beautiful legacy to each of them. Tony also was blessed with four great-grandchildren, Christian and Michael Chrysakis, and George and Giana Stamas, each of whom he adored. "Our Beloved Father and "Papou" will be greatly missed by his immediate and extended family! Viewing will be at Dobies Funeral Home in Tarpon Springs on Friday, Nov. 25th from 6-8 pm. Our next door neighbor from 2002 -2009. Great man and friend. Taught me to throw a cast net when he was eighty.
Brought all sorts of wonderful sea food over for us to eat. Stone Crab Claws and more.
