Anthony MARSICO Obituary
MARSICO, Anthony David "Dave" 90, of Trinity, FL, went home to be with his Lord and Savior January 21, 2022, after a long and fulfilling life. He was the beloved husband of 62 years of Eva (nee Backstrom); cherished father of Diane (Paul) Maier of Canton, OH and Laura (Michael) Lombardi of Palm Harbor, FL; devoted grandfather of Elizabeth (Zachery) Hayes, John Kravec, David Maier, Hannah Kravec, Joseph Maier and Haley Kravec; loving brother of Dr. Franklin Marsico (Peggy). Dave, the eldest child of Santo and Rose Marsico, was born in their Arnold, PA home in 1931. Dave was a great storyteller and often delighted his young daughters with stories of growing up during the Great Depression in his tight knit neighborhood of family and friends. His parents never owned a car and Dave grew up walking everywhere. He enjoyed the exercise and discipline of taking brisk walks well into his eighties.Dave graduated from Arnold High School and attended basic training at Camp Breckinridge before serving his country in Korea. He was thrilled to have participated in an Honor Flight with other war veterans at the age of 86. Following Korea, Dave attended and graduated from Westminster College in New Wilmington, PA where he served as president of Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity and was actively involved in many campus organizations. It was at Westminster that Dave met Eva Backstrom, a transfer student, during registration of their junior year. That fall was the beginning of what would become a loving 62 year marriage. Following their wedding in June of 1959, Dave and Eva would make their home in Plainfield, NJ; Pittsburgh, PA; and Cleveland, OH; as Dave worked for PPG Industries and Alcan Aluminum Corporation, from which he retired. During his career, Dave served as president of Cleveland's Human Resource Association and was actively involved in national personnel organizations. He was on the advisory board of Erieview Cartage Company and was an officer of Alcan Management Company. Dave also served as a consultant on personnel and compensation matters to the Washington D.C. based Aluminum Association's Board of Directors. Dave and Eva moved to Trinity, FL in 2005. Wherever they lived, Dave was an active member of his church, whether it be serving as an elder and Clerk of Session in the Presbyterian church, serving on presbytery committees, or coaching the church high school basketball team to a league championship. Dave was humbled to attend the Presidential Prayer Breakfast in Washington DC in the late 1980s. Dave loved the Lord and he loved his family. The family would like to express their gratitude for the care and compassion Dave received from Arden Courts of Palm Harbor and from Gulfside Hospice and Suncoast Hospice. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.
