Charles White Obituary

WHITE, Charles Willis He was born on June 17, 1940 in Ybor City, Tampa, Florida and passed away in hospice care on August 28, 2023 at the age of 83. He was known in his family as Charlie and among some friends as Chuck. He was the widower of Karen S. White. Chuck is survived by two sons, Michael of Brandon, Florida and Glen of Draper, Utah; a granddaughter, Ashley; and a great-granddaughter, Easton in Brandon and two grandchildren in Utah, Zander and Monroe. He graduated from Hills-borough High School and joined the United States Navy, where he served in the crew of the aircraft carrier USS Randolph. The ship sailed near Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was among the initial crew of the USS Sylvania, a combat stores ship. He was also stationed in Naples, Italy. The Navy awarded him a National Defense Service Medal, a Good Conduct Medal and an Honorable Discharge. After serving in the Navy, Chuck went to work for the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad, which after various corporate reorganizations became CSX Transportation. He worked for the railroad for more than 43 years, beginning as a mechanic and retiring as a Federal investigator of accidents involving the railroad. Chuck was a Shriner, riding his horse in parades, and a member of Prime Timers. He helped to establish Holy Spirit Old Catholic Church in Safety Harbor. He held an annual subscription to American Stage in St. Petersburg and attended many concerts of The Florida Orchestra. After he met his partner, Mike, in 2007, the two of them became world travelers. He was proud and happy that he made four trips around the world, visiting every continent and over 90 countries. Chuck had a wry sense of humor and was an interesting and entertaining storyteller. He requested that there be no memorial service but that he be cremated and his ashes be distributed at sea by the United States Navy. His cremation was performed by the National Cremation Society of Clearwater, Florida. National Cremation

Sorry to hear of Chuck's passing. Knew Chuck and Mike through the Tampa Bay Pharaohs and most recently when he and Mike moved to On Top of the World. Sending Mike thoughts of peace at this sad time.
