John and I were best of friends for over sixty years. We first met when his family moved from Tarpon Springs to Clearwater. This was a large house on Drew st. His mom Ruby use to make hot tea on cold mornings and we would set by the fire place and talk to Paul and Patti before school on cold mornings. There home was always very worm. His dad big Gene was tough but always nice to me.
I think Johnny and I first met at Marymount Park over by the little Clearwater Air Park. We used to always complete in all sports thats where we first started taking karate lessons. I think the teachers name was Rusty. John kept up with private lessons and became very good. Several years later John became my teacher.
Beside karate John and I spent many hours fishing and hunting. He was always a true sportsman. His dad Gene use to take John, Paul and me camping up around Wekki Wachee river state park. Those were great times.
I am sorry to to say that we lost contact after I got married and moved to central Florida to start a fish camp and guide service.
I will miss John and that warm smile. He was the best friend a person could have. See you soon brother, Ron Price.
