Joseph Campo Obituary

CAMPO, Dr. Joseph, 81, went to be with the Lord December 10, 2010. Dr.

Campo was a wonderful husband, father and grand-father who deeply loved his family and many friends. He leaves behind his loving wife of 54 years, Carmela; son, Dr. John Campo and wife, Alicia; daughter, Camille and her husband, Dr. Sebastian Ciachella; and their two daughters, Michelle Elizabeth and Angela Marie, his precious granddaughters. Dr. Campo was born in Tampa, raised in Stamford, Conn., and moved back to Tampa at the age of 15. He graduated from Hillsborough High School in 1947. From there, he attended the University of Florida where he obtained a degree in pharmacy, master' s degree and Ph.D. in pharmaceutical chemistry. Dr. Campo then served as a professor of pharmacy at Rutgers University and then at the University of Mississippi. From 1963 to 1980, he was the director of the pharmacy department at Tampa General Hospital, where he used his expertise to pioneer the development of solutions used in the then new field of kidney dialysis. He also assisted surgeons in the development of solutions for heart surgery and IV feedings. Dr. Campo was on the founding faculty of the University of South Florida College of Medicine, and taught many young doctors. In the evenings, he taught chemistry to nursing students at the Gordon Keller School of Nursing and at Hillsborough Community College during the 1960s and 1970s. Dr. Campo had been a member of Christ the King Catholic Church for 45 years. In recent years, he was a member of the Romeo Men' s Club. Fraternity, Honorary Pharmacy Society, and the Florida Pharmacy Association. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 18, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 821 S. Dale Mabry Highway, with Monsignor Laurence E. Higgins P.A., Pastor Emeritus, St. Lawrence Catholic Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Myrtle Hill Memorial Park. Dear Carmela,
